The IT city is now teeming with bars targeted at a variety of clientele. Here’s our pick of the best of the more recent ones.
FOR A WHILE, it looked like the former pub capital of India had lost its froth. Many of the charming old pubs that gave the city a high through the 1990s had shut down, and the ones taking their place weren’t all that great. Most regulars in Bengaluru felt that an entire era had ended, leaving behind a cocktail of memories involving beer and good rock music.
After a largely listless first decade, the new millennium has seen a surprising change in Bengaluru’s drinking scene. In the last few years, several watering holes have opened across the city. While some of them offer regular fare, others have ventured into new and exciting territory. Playing with the key factors of location, theme, ambience, food and drink, they have come up with fresh experiences for tipplers.
HIGH ULTRA LOUNGE,
HOTEL SHERATON GRAND, BRIGADE GATEWAY, RAJAJI NAGAR
The Asian influence at Hotel Sheraton’s bar is unmistakable. So is the inclination to party, going by the good dance floor and excellent DJs in attendance. Perched at a stunning height of 421 feet, it claims to be South India’s highest watering hole. The place is huge, but has been intelligently split up into different zones. You can choose from the enclosed bar, the more private party area and the open-to-sky deck. The décor is adventurous, with contrasting influences like a fluid resin wall, expansive glass, a vertical garden, white mesh furniture and water bodies creating an interesting mood.
