India's Increasing Obsession With Cringe Content

Cringe content is content we all watch, stuff we love to hate. Videos, memes, TikToks — you name it and it’s there. With cringe culture, there is an unapologetic attitude attached to it and people don’t realise when to draw the line.

Why is it gaining this much popularity worldwide, you ask? That’s thanks to the trolling and negativity the Internet has primarily popularised. We, as humans, have started to see negativity across the Internet in the form of trolling or hatred against each other. That’s why the meme culture is popular. All we need is something to laugh at and cringe content, in that case, is the perfect example.

It’s become so big because we’re all so consumed in our daily jobs that we’re just looking for an escape, which makes cringeworthy content on other people seem like a good pick, because the joke isn’t on you. However cringe content creators themselves, are aware of the fact that their work will reach out to more people even if they’re looked upon as a laughing stock.
