What Makes A Man?
A question that has been woven into the fabric of everything that Ermenegildo Zegna does. The Spring/ Summer 2021 campaign shows an intimate portrait of individuals and relationships captured between model, singer, and songwriter Gabriel-Kane Day-Lewis, and his mother, five-time César Award-winning actress, Isabelle Adjani. Artistic Director Alessandro Sartori exclusively talks to MW about the campaign.
This is the fourth What Makes A Man campaign. Did you envision this success when the first campaign was designed? How does the campaign explore modern masculinity?
When we launched the What Makes A Man campaign in Fall 2019, our aim was to contribute to foster the dialogue about the meaning of modern masculinity. The social and cultural debate surrounding the evolution of masculinity is very much felt nowadays. With this campaign, we wanted to stimulate a sincere reflection without imposing any defined truth, to challenge stereotypes, and to ask relevant questions that could help give strength to a constructive debate.
