With a slew of major film roles in her pocket, Alexandra Daddario is quickly becoming Hollywood’s most valuable player. She made her mark with her notorious role as the seductive woman scorned in True Detective, stole our hearts as Annabeth, the daughter of Athena in both instalments of the Percy Jackson franchise, and played remarkable roles in Baywatch, Texas Chainsaw 3D and the disaster epic San Andreas with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. So far this year Alexandra has been the object of Adam Devine’s affection in Netflix’s romantic comedy When We Met, and will star in two upcoming thrillers, Nomis starring Henry Cavill and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, directed by Stacie Passon. Alexandra, who now lives in Los Angeles, takes a day off her hectic schedule to talk to Azza Arif about women’s rights, gun control and her dreams of becoming a Pop star
What fascinates me more about Alexandra Daddario is her powerful combination of talent, beauty, charm, and wit, and how vocal she is about her thoughts and beliefs. She comes across as friendly and refreshingly upbeat. “These are so pretty!” she gushes as she looks through the clothes and accessories that were flown in for the shoot. She pulled out a pink ruffled Dior dress and held it against her oversized grey sweater and skinny denims. Her hair was flowing loosely around her naturally gorgeous, makeup free face.
To say that good looks runs in Alexandra’s genes is not hyperbole—just look at her bloodline. “My mum is Hungarian, and my dad’s Italian and a little Irish,” she tells me, while makeup artist Elie Maalouf dabs on touches of moisturiser on her cheeks. Her family tree has also given her another important attribute—it has taught her to be appreciative of what she has been blessed with. “My background has taught me to be grateful for the opportunities that I have had because of how hard it was back then, especially for my mother who came from absolutely nothing. She built her life here in America, and was able to go to school, and become a lawyer and provide for us. And so, I think more than anything, knowing how hard my family worked to give me the opportunity I have now just really lives in me.”
