Tadashi Fujita, Executive Vice President of Japan Airlines (JAL) talks about the recently announced partnership with Vistara and its plans for the Indian market
Japan Airlines and Vistara recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). What was the idea behind this strategic partnership and what influenced this decision?
We didn’t have any partners in India before this. The Indian market is expanding and it’ll continue to do so in future as well—you have a population of 1.2 billion and of those only about 200,000 people travel abroad currently. China, on the other hand, has a 1.3 billion population and over 0.1 billion overseas travellers. We knew that in order to expand our market in India, we needed a partner here to work with. So, we began looking at various airlines in India. Why we chose Vistara is because they focus on premium services in their business, premium economy and economy classes. And Japan Airlines is forever striving to provide more and more premium services to its customers. Which is why the collaboration between Japan Airlines and Vistara seemed very good.
What are the various terms of this alliance?
