Where Men Handle Everything!
Simply Her Singapore|August 2016

She’s educated, professional, capable and confident. But when it comes to life maintenance, she’s a mess. Meet the Singapore wife who hands everything family or household-related over to the Hubs.

Jo Upcraft
Where Men Handle Everything!

Agnes wearily opens the front door, taps on the living room light, kicks off her shoes, drops her handbag next to them and flops onto the sofa. It’s only Wednesday evening, but work has been tough.

Thankfully, Agnes, 31, can cope with her high-pressure career. She’s been a sales manager at a well known company for the past three years, and prides herself on her own smart thinking and organisational skills and competencies.

She sees it’s almost 8.30pm almost time for a repeat of Descendants Of The Sun and her mood lifts momentarily. Then her stomach growls. She contemplates raiding the fridge, but husband Alex*, 33, will be home in half an hour and he always picks up dinner, so Agnes sends him a quick Whatsapp text.

“Where U?” she types, followed by “I’m hungry!”

“Office madness. Will be back late. Sorry,” he texts back.

She tut-tuts under her breath as she calculates that they won’t eat until at least 9.30pm then. She grumpily enters the kitchen. The dishes from the previous night are still festering in the sink (Alex worked late then, too) and the laundry outside should have been brought in days ago.

She ignores both, opens a cupboard and grabs a bag of chips they’ll do until Alex gets back with dinner.

HUSBAND TAKEOVER

Does Agnes sound lazy? Unloving? Disrespectful? Unbelievable? A few years ago, you may have said yes. But today, there are a growing number of married women who function perfectly in their day-today professional lives, but struggle to look after their home, family and themselves. So their husbands take over.
