At the individual level, dietary choice could be one of the most effective ways to reduce our impact on climate change, so researchers and scientists are racing to bring greener alternatives to our plates.

But while many biotech companies focus on finding alternatives to meat products, Avant Meats co-founder and CEO Carrie Chan has trained her sights on seafood, one of the last widely consumed animal proteins to be still sourced largely from the wild.

Avant Meats is a pioneer of cultivated fish protein, which is grown in a lab from fish stem cells. The result is seafood that is virtually indistinguishable from the original-while also being safe, clean, sustainable and, soon, economically viable. It's a winning and perhaps ultimately necessary recipe for success.
