SETTLED IN GHANA
“Everyone seems to know everybody”
Having nurtured the desire to travel and work in different countries, Venu Budavarthi shifted to Ghana when he was offered a position to work there. Having been there for six years now, and joined recently by his wife and daughter, this true-blue Vizagite, settled in another land, compares life and living, as he reminisces about all that he misses back home.
“Vizag is a beautiful place to be in, and having lived here for 12 years, we have made many memories. Watching my kids grow up and choose their own paths, adopting our dog Kuchi, having Kamat biryani on Sundays, dining at Senora or Grand Bay, have been memorable occasions. I also miss morning walks by the beach and the people while my family misses the temple visits, Indian food and friends.
A couple of similarities between Ghana and Vizag, are the presence of a beach and the sweaty humid weather. However, the culture in Ghana is very different, and while it may be more cosmopolitan, Vizag is more homely and everyone seems to know everybody.
On our last visit, the growth of the city and the new eateries really amazed us. I hope that the city grows in the coming years, and my family looks forward to additions of an international airport, casino, more shopping malls and dog parks. Also, while we do stay updated about Vizag through friends and family, we look forth to coming back to our homeland soon.”
