Dinesh Karthik and Ishan Kishan represents the current and future generation of Indian cricket. Dinesh is a veteran of the game while Ishan is new to the system. They both have been an integral part of Gujarat Lions since the franchise came into existence. In an exclusive interview with Cricket Today, they spoke about the dynamics of Gujarat Lions, IPL and what they have learned from the league. Here are the excerpts.
What does IPL mean to you?
Dinesh Karthik - IPL is a tournament which has helped me in enhancing my cricketing skills. Moreover, it helps international players to exchange their views and opinions about the game. The rivalry turns into friendship for players, who play for different countries. As far as domestic cricketers are concerned, it is a step up from the local tournaments and they can learn a lot from the big stars.
Ishan Kishan - It is great opportunity for youngsters like me to learn a lot from big players and then execute it on the ground.
How has been your journey of the IPL since 2008 to till date?
Dinesh Karthik - It started as a tournament, which had a lot of entertainment quotient but slowly and gradually, it has gone down and the cricket has taken the front seat. The standard of the game has improved tremendously with teams playing fabulous cricket in the last few seasons compared to what it was initially in the first few editions of the IPL. There is a massive change in terms of approach by a batsman and three scores which are put on board. Infact, the auctions have changed where there is value to money spend on a particular player. It has been an amazing journey not only for the players but also for the administrators and owners.
Ishan Kishan – I have been part of the league since last two years and IPL has given a platform to young cricketers like me to display our talent in front of the masses. The Indian Premier League is a world class tournament which has grown a lot in terms of action, excitement and performance since its first season to till date.
