The fabulously gorgeous and talented Haitian lawyer turned beauty pageant contestant turned successful international actress.
We know that you’re a Haitian actress in Hollywood, but we also know that your first steps into the entertainment business started with beauty pageants. Tell us about that story?
That is correct, I was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and before becoming a beauty queen I was actually a lawyer. I have a Masters in International Business Law and Litigation and I worked as a business lawyer for three years until I received the news that the “Miss Haiti Universe Contest” would be celebrated for the first time after 22 years of absence. I believe that opportunities come to you when they are meant to, not when you expect them to, so I decided to quit my job as a lawyer and went to participate in becoming Miss Haiti 2010... Miss Universe opened a lot of doors for me, after the contest I was invited all over the world to very special events, where I met several people from the film industry in Hollywood and Europe. I did not know how passionate I was about acting until I actually shot my first Movie the Voodoo’s List with Italian Director Angelo Rizzo, and I remember being so happy waking up at 5am every morning to go to set… It was a beautiful experience and I would say it’s what made me fall in love with what is now my career.
You won Miss Haiti Universe 2010 and more recently gained the title of Hispano-American Queen 2012. What initially attracted you to the world of pageantry?
I have always enjoyed seeing beauty queens on TV. I always wanted to see Haiti represented in an international beauty pageant, because I believe that it is a great platform to promote the country and culture, and having the opportunity to be the one representing it, has been such an honour for me, and has made big changes in my life...
