FMS 3000mm Fox
Model Airplane News|July 2019

If you’re thinking of sailplane aerobatics, the MDM-1 Fox is probably the first plane that comes to mind. It is an unmistakable design, with lines resembling that of a fighter rather than a typical glider.

FMS 3000mm Fox

The Fox is no stranger to FMS, which released a 2.3m version a few years back. Now the company has released a supersized 3000mm example, roughly 1:4.6 scale, making it the largest foam plane they have ever produced. This giant-scale ARF is a true plug-and-play model. It is not only receiver- and battery-ready but the entire airframe is also a plugand-play assembly, requiring no tools or adhesives.

The airframe is constructed out of durable EPO foam that is reinforced throughout with carbon fiber and nylon plastic, making sure it can take what you dish out. Because it’s electric, you don’t need to deal with the hassle of setting up a hi-start or winch to get it airborne. The powerful brushless motor and 16-inch prop provide a quick climb to altitude. Once there, the prop folds back tominimize drag, so you can stay aloft longer. If you’d rather fly it around like a giant-scale sport plane, the Fox will do that as well.

The comprehensive instructions guide you through the quick assembly and the setting up of control throws and center of gravity (CG). Anyone who can handle an aileron plane will have a blast with this giant bird.

UNIQUE FEATURES

When you first open the rather large box and see that huge canopy, you quickly realize the large scale of the Fox. Every component has its place and is well protected. The box could actually be reused for storage or transportation. As mentioned, there are no tools or adhesives required to assemble this plane, and thanks to its modular snap-together design, it took less than five minutes to remove everything from the box and have the plane assembled in my shop.

PRODUCT REVIEW: RC PLANE STANDS BENCHTOP MODEL

I’m a sucker for shop stuff. I buy tools I will probably never use just because they are cool, or I might need to use them someday. When Glen from RC Plane Stands reached out about a review, however, I knew as soon as I browsed their website that I would be receiving something I would use a lot, maybe even daily.
