This is not a test. This is not a drill. Thirteen years on from their last outing, Alexisonfire are releasing a brand new full-length album. Can't quite believe it?
Well, neither can the band, really. But that's only because up until the last two years, they didn't really know what an Alexisonfire full-length could look like right now. After moving at a thousand miles an hour for a decade before saying their final farewell in 2012, it genuinely felt like that was it. A beautifully brutal success story wrapped up nicely and left to the history books. Even when the band started getting together to play some shows in 2015, it never felt like anything more than blowing off some steam that had accumulated in the interim. And when they released a small collection of singles around 2019, that also felt like a slight flex of a well-established muscle.
But a full-length album? Nah, no chance. It's true though, and it's real. And it is fucking phenomenal.
And, of course, it all started from some jam sessions brought on by an ongoing global pandemic. Who knew that was all it would take? "We never got together to make a record. It was just because the world had stopped, and because we could," guitarist and vocalist Dallas Green remembers.
"But I think after we wrote the first four tunes of that batch and demoed them, that was when I knew. When I heard what it sounded like, I was like, 'I think we have started making a record'.
"I heard the band in a completely different way when I listened to what we had made. We realised just how much this band had been supporting each of us through this moment in time, and seeing what we were capable of at that time was a really special thing.
