Here I explore light art therapy as a way to convey my need for connection, social distance love, my anxiety surrounding the coronavirus, the solitude of this experience, and how I found beauty from within in this time.
Self-love has been a huge part of this photography endeavor; it has allowed me to come to terms with some of my imperfections and feel strong and confident as a person. In the dark, light painting allowed me to turn my room's landscape into a place of wonder and imagination.
I didn't need shapes and figures to be there for the photo; I could paint them and, along with that, explore my deepest inner emotions in, and most importantly, to be in my safe space.
I light paint with a Sony A7s and a flashlight, which I use to draw in the space as well as highlight my own body. Yes, I am the model in every photo. The process is a complete performance art piece as I pose and move around while painting within the time limit of the exposure settings, and trust me, sometimes it's a race!
