EDUCATION, A VEHICLE FOR KNOWLEDGE

An effective education should deliver comprehensive knowledge, comprising of

Dhi – Intelligence

Dharma- Values

Daksha – Skills

A community’s view on education depends on their knowledge of sciences, understanding of man as a material being and or a spiritual being. The thought of the land / times defines the education effort.

The Rishi scholars of India, over thousands of years developed the knowledge base for this civilization. This knowledge has been transmitted both in the oral and written form from generation to generation through the Gurukula system of education, that catered to two aspects of education:

1. One that teaches us how to make a living

2. One that teaches us how to live

An Acharya, our ancient teachers as in the Gurukula system, is the one who teaches us how to live, and also to earn a living. He is the one who brings about transformation in his students, through example, and not just by transferring information. The Acharya not merely fills the mind, but also shapes the mind of his students.
