New team is move towards pro career.
Ex-National Hunt jockey Wilson Renwick this week moved one step closer to completing a “reverse Pendleton” and becoming a professional bike rider.
The Scot has signed for the Colchester based Velo Schils-InterBike race team in a bid to continue a meteoric rise through the rankings that has seen him progress from novice to first category in just two seasons.
“The team has a great programme for 2017 lined up, with UCI races all over the world, including the Tours of Rhodes (March) and Senegal (July), events in South America, as well as elite races in the UK,” says Renwick.
Renwick only bought his first road bike four years ago, after a study into jockeys’ weight management techniques by Liverpool University revealed he had a higher VO2 max — 90ml/kg/min — than Chris Froome (88.2).
