Seven gold medals for GB’s next generation in Portugal
Great Britain put in an “impressive team performance” to win 24 medals at the Junior/ U23 European Track Championships in Portugal last week, more than any other nation.
The 28-rider squad, made up almost entirely of those on the British Cycling Academy Programme, came away from the six-day event in Anadia with seven gold medals, six silver and 11 bronze.
Six of the wins went to U23 riders, including two golds for Mark Stewart in the omnium and individual pursuit, Emily Nelson in the elimination race, the men’s team pursuit, women’s Madison and men’s team sprint, while Fred Wright took gold in the junior omnium.
“It was a really impressive team performance,” Iain Dyer, British Cycling team’s head coach told Cycling Weekly.
