The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is another massive chance for India to win a global tournament, which has eluded them since the 2023 ICC Champions Trophy win in England. India reached the ICC World Cup 2023 final but lost. Besides, they have also been beaten in two successive World Test Championship finals. Regarding the T20 World Cup, India reached the final in 2014 and lost, besides being two-time semi-finalists in 2016 and 2022. India’s last T20 World Cup win was the 2007 inaugural edition.
For India to make things count in the 2024 West Indies and USA event, the main criteria will be to select a solid squad that can fight. Roles assigned will be crucial and fitting into the system will be immense. Recently, the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the T20Is versus Afghanistan has changed India’s system as now a few players who have been part of the reckoning post the 2022 event may be overlooked.
