Strange developments have been afoot once more in the corridors of the Board of Control for India (BCCI). The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) needs to address the anomaly where former cricketers are accused of conflict of interest while some administrators are allowed to appoint proxies.
The mixed news of the appointment of Rupa Gurunath to the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and the resignation of Kapil Dev as part of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has highlighted a serious problem. While former cricketers are willing to put in the paces to give back to the game, it would seem that the yardstick of measurement is vastly different when it comes to eligibility of cricketers vis-à-vis administrators.
It was alarming that the appointment of the daughter of N. Srinivasan to a top administrative position in regional cricket was only passed around in whispers. It mattered little that N. Srinivasan was forced to step down as the BCCI chief and that his son-in-law and the husband of Rupa Gurunath was accused of betting in the course of the Indian Premier League (IPL), matters that have been far from resolved.
