Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer, Harshal Patel, claimed the 20th hat-trick in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) during match 39 of the 14th edition of the T20 tournament against Mumbai Indians (MI). Patel achieved the feat in Dubai on Sunday, dismissing Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Rahul Chahar as RCB defended a target of 166 to crush MI by 54 runs. In the wake of the latest IPL hat-trick, we got back in history and revisit the previous 19 occasions when a bowler has claimed three wickets of as many balls.
IPL 2008 - (LAKSHMIPATHY BALAJI, AMIT MISHRA, MAKHAYA NTINI)
The first edition of the IPL itself saw three players bagging hat-tricks. Laxmipathy Balaji was the first-ever player to take a hat-trick in the IPL. He dismissed Irfan Pathan, Piyush Chawla and VRV Singh, playing for CSK against Punjab. He finished with 5 for 24 as CSK won by 18 runs. Amit Mishra got the first of his three IPL hattricks representing Delhi Capitals against Deccan Chargers. He dismissed Ravi Teja, Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh. He picked up 5 for 17 and bowled Delhi to a 12-run win. Makhaya Ntini picked up the third hat-trick of IPL 2008. Playing for CSK against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he dismissed Sourav Ganguly, Debabrata Das and David Hussey. He ended with 4 for 21 as CSK won by 3 runs (D/L method)
IPL 2010 (PRAVEEN KUMAR)
RCB's Praveen Kumar claimed three in three against RR. His victims were Damien Martyn, Sumit Narwal and Paras Dogra. RR were rolled over for 92 and won the contest by 10 wickets.
