Ireland will host India for a three-match series in the 20-over format, starting August 18 in Dublin. With the Asia Cup end of this month, India’s key players will be missing the series. Meanwhile, the new-look squad with several fresh faces gets a leader in talisman Jasprit Bumrah, who returns to the side after a long hiatus due to injury. All eyes will be on Bumrah as former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri said the fans around the globe will be keen to see how he functions with the World Cup coming. India can try out some new batters who are part of the Asian Games this year. For Ireland, Paul Stirling leads a formidable side with plenty of experience and character. India must play their skins out to have an edge over Ireland. Ahead of a crunch three-match series, here we present seven key player battles in store for us.
JASPRIT BUMRAH vs PAUL STIRLING
A clash of the skippers, this is a battle that will excite everyone. Bumrah, back from injury, will be hungry to perform as a bowler and be a guide. He is a real character in the 20-over format and can be effective in both power play and death overs. Up against Bumrah will be Stirling, who is his side’s leading runscorer. In 60 matches, Bumrah has claimed 70 scalps at 20.22. As per ESPNcricinfo, Bumrah has bowled just one delivery against Stirling, dismissing him in the process.
