After winning the Man-of-the-Match award in India’s ICC World T20 2016 tie against Australia, Virat Kohli attributed his fitness as a primary factor which helped him build his match-winning knock. During the tense chase, Kohli scampered like a hare between the wickets to steal ones into twos and twos into threes before finally unleashing himself towards the end and taking India home. This was not just a one-off incident, though.
Kohli was always a good batsman. But one can clearly see that in the last two-three years, he has taken his game to another level altogether. A lot of that is being credited to his increased fitness levels. Even in the IPL this year, Kohli managed to score four hundreds and also came close to scoring a 1000 runs, all in a single season. The IPL came right after the World T20 and one would have thought that Kohli would be exhausted. But he wasn’t. His fitness levels were such that he just seemed to go on and on and never tire. This maddening passion for fitness that Kohli has inculcated into his game is now setting unprecedented standards in world cricket. Many from the Indian team too have now been infected with this fitness bug and are striving hard to attain the same levels that Kohli has.
