After all the confusion and mystery, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally confirmed that Rahul Dravid will continue as head coach of the senior Men's cricket team. Earlier, there were reports that the Indian legend was unwilling to continue in the high-pressure role. However, the BCCI, through an official update cleared the air and stated that, after engaging in productive discussions with Dravid, both parties unanimously agreed to further the tenure. The Indian head coach's contract with the Indian team expired after the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.
In what should be considered a smart decision, keeping the continuing factor in mind, the BCCI also extended the contracts of the support staff - bowing coach Paras Mhambrey, batting coach Vikram Rathour and fielding coach T. Dilip. Under Dravid's previous tenure as coach, India came up with some impressive performances in big events even though, like under Ravi Shastri before him, the Indian team failed to win an ICC event. India were semi-finalists in the 2022 T20 World Cup and runners-up in the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) and the 2023 ODI World Cup. They, however, did win the Asia Cup earlier this year, crushing Sri Lanka in the final.
