BCCI recently announced a 16-member team for the tournament and the biggest surprise was Virat Kohli’s absence from the squad. The selection panel decided to give Virat a much-needed break and appointed the prolific Rohit Sharma as the skipper for this event.
Asia Cup is the third biggest multi-nation ODI tournament after World Cup and Champions Trophy and since it stamps regional supremacy, it would have been sensible if India’s top match winner was part of the team. While some critics slammed the Indian board for resting Virat from this important series, which is staged after a gap of two years, the decision has been widely welcomed by cricket lovers and pundits.
