You often hear stories about people who leave their day jobs to pursue their dreams. Helmi Smeulders (https://www.caribbeanspicegirl.com/) did just that. Originally from Holland, she came to Curaçao 20 years ago. A lawyer by trade, she left her job to follow her heart and love for food. Smeulders leads a culinary revolution by breaking down and applying new techniques to century-old recipes. Combined with her fierce belief in the quality of fresh and locally grown produce, the Caribbean Kitchen is evolving from comfort to culinary, from traditional to modern.
Smeulders is known as the expert of modern Caribbean cuisine. She shares her passion for the Caribbean Kitchen by creating unique culinary experiences, like secret pop-up restaurants, culinary road trips, hands-on workshops, adventurous cooking holidays and exclusive chef’s tables. She recently published her second cookbook, Island Vibes – The Joy of Caribbean Cooking.
All in all, it’s a great time for any travel foodie to discover the eclectic tastes of the Caribbean Kitchen.
