Vacation destinations and hotels fit for young globetrotters
Yilan County, Taiwan
Taipei is already a popular family destination but for those who wish to take some time off the metropolitan lifestyle can take an hour’s drive into Yilan County from Taipei, which is located in the northeastern area of Taiwan. Take a journey into nature and folk culture with visits to several heritage areas, like the Museum of Yilan Government History, Yilan Distillery, and Jimmy Square.
Give city kids a taste of agriculture with a visit to Toucheng Leisure Farm. The small farm provides short farm stays to families to try their hand at farming around the farm grounds. Feed fish, goats and buffalo, learn how ducks, geese and pigs are reared and enjoy the farm’s surrounding nature. There are shallow streams to wade in and lots of flora and fauna to look out for as well. As part of the educational experience, Toucheng Leisure Farm also has simple cooking classes for little ones, while older guests can try their hand at farming, harvesting and working around the farm (from £30 per person for day tour; tcfarm.com.tw).
MAKE IT HAPPEN
There are direct flights on EVA Air from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (from £305; evaair.com). There’re car rental companies at T1 and T2.
