5 Super-easy Steps To Be A Sustainable Traveller

1. Choose A ‘Green’ Destination

The Global Top 100 Sustainable Destinations report is released annually to honour destinations promoting sustainability through various initiatives.

For example, Portugal promotes sustainability through renewable energy and the rational use of water. The country is also an affordable European getaway for South Africans travelling on the rand.

Then, the eco-friendly paradise of Seychelles is regarded as a world-leader in sustainability and recently banned single-use plastics. The islands are also working on reducing plastic usage of any kind. Ecuador, Nepal, Peru, Costa Rica, and the Galapagos are other ‘green’ destinations.

2. Choose a responsible tour operator

Keep your conscience in check by booking with a certified responsible tour operator.

“As the FCTG group, we are committed to build brighter futures through responsible travel,” says Sue Garrett, Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) General Manager Marketing and Product. “We only promote and sell travel that respects human rights, the environment, and social equality and have appointed ambassadors as part of our WorldWise initiative to help educate our colleagues and customers.”

“We have many excellent responsible tour operators, hotels and transport providers in our portfolio that travellers can choose from,” says Garrett.
