Yes, at the end of the day, good food and drinks, and exemplary service, are the hallmark of every restaurant. But it’s when the restaurant goes beyond these, that it creates a legacy. The Bombay Canteen in Lower Parel, Mumbai, is one such name. Its ever-evolving and excellent Indian menu has earned it the distinction of being part of the Diners Club’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants Discovery Series this year; the menu includes dishes made with locally-sourced, seasonal produce and ingredients, and features humble regional fare recreated with contemporary flair. Add to this the fact that the restaurant is a firm believer in building and maintaining a strong sense of family not just within its employees but with the community at large. To this effect, it has been mentoring rising food and beverage stars, and organising community meals laid out every August 15, to raise funds for a social cause.
