It was the court case that kept us all on the edge of our seats, as Amber Heard and Johnny Depp faced each other over defamation and libel charges last month. And as the former couple – who split in 2016 – sued and countersued each other for millions of dollars, an unlikely star was born in the courtroom.
Johnny Depp’s lawyer – 37-year-old Camille Vasquez from San Francisco – became an internet sensation during the trial for her tough cross-examination of Amber Heard. The attorney was praised by Depp fans for her unabashed questioning and extensive legal knowledge, with one fan even allegedly getting tattoos of Camille. Google searches for her name skyrocketed during the proceedings and she was spotted greeting fans outside the courthouse on one occasion.
‘It’s been surreal and if I’m being honest a bit overwhelming,’ Camille has said of the attention. ‘But if I can be an inspiration to young women that want to go to law school and study and work hard then it was all worth it.’
