She was left heart-broken when her 10-year romance with businessman Dave Clark came crashing to an end in 2016 – the man she’d hoped to marry and have a family with. But Princess Beatrice has found her Prince Charming, falling head over heels in love and now heading to the altar for a fairytale wedding.
After announcing her engagement to Italian property tycoon Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 34, last week, following a dreamy proposal in Italy in September, royal insiders say Beatrice, 31, credits her new fiancé with helping to mend her broken heart.
In the official statement released by Buckingham Palace announcing the happy news, the couple say, “We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married. We share so many similar interests and values, and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead full of love and happiness.”
Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, both 59, are said to be overjoyed at the union, given Edoardo has been a close family friend for many years, saying, “We are the lucky parents of a wonderful daughter who has found her love and companion in a completely devoted friend and loyal young man.”
Friends close to the couple – who have had a whirlwind 11-month romance which they struck up at Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank last October – say Beatrice is on cloud nine.
“Bea still can’t believe it and can’t stop staring at her ring, admitting how she was in such shock when Edo got down on one knee and was speechless for a good minute before even replying with a ‘yes’,” tells a pal.
