The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are making a desperate attempt to redeem their public image – but is it too little too late?
Prince Harry and Meghan have faced a storm of intense scrutiny since their wedding last May – coming under fire for their extravagant spending habits and sparking outrage over their decision to keep both the birth and christening of baby Archie private, while garnering public attention as and when they choose to.
Just last week the self-confessed eco-warriors have been labelled “hypocrites” by royal commentators for taking four private jets in 11 days.
And Meghan’s estranged father, Thomas, 75, has made yet another series of explosive claims, saying he’s been “unfairly vilified and cut out of his grandson’s life”.
Insiders tell us the new mum – nicknamed “Duchess Difficult” – felt she was left with no choice but to call on top Hollywood PR firm Sunshine Sachs in a desperate bid to salvage their reputations.
The former actress, 38 – who gave birth to Archie in May – has broken royal tradition yet again and snubbed palace PRs in favour of the Los Angeles-based crisis experts, whose A-list clientele has included the late Michael Jackson and disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.
Meghan’s move to rehire the firm who represented her during her stint on TV drama Suits has further fuelled claims she wants to be treated like a celebrity, not a royal.
According to a source, “The duchess’ latest bombshell has ruffled a lot of feathers – particularly the palace’s head of communications Sara Latham, who’s made it known she feels undermined and insulted by the move.
