For most couples, the first few years of marriage are often the happiest. But for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the 18 months since they said “I do” have been dogged with scandal, criticism, controversy and untold stress.
So as they take an extended break in the US this month, the embattled pair have vowed not only to use their time out of the public eye to relax and refresh, but to also spend time focusing on mending their marriage.
“The last few months have put a huge amount of strain on Prince Harry and Meghan’s relationship,” tells our palace insider. “There’s been more stress than most people face in a lifetime – family feuds, the exhaustion that comes with a new baby, not to mention the endless negative headlines. It’s all led to a lot of tension between them both at times and it’s certainly taken a toll.”
The source claims that Meghan, 38, has told pals she and Harry, 35, desperately need this time away to reconnect with each other. Since becoming parents to seven-month-old baby Archie, Meghan feels it’s been hard to have “couple time”, and she’s determined to find a way back to the excitement and romance of when they first met.
“Joining the royal family is harder than Meghan ever could’ve imagined and for Harry, balancing his duty to the monarchy with ensuring his wife is happy, has often pushed him to the brink. But they still love each other deeply and they’re both committed to making it work. They’ve been hanging out for this time away.”
