In a rare quiet moment on the set of Lego Masters, host Hamish Blake is watching the contestants work.
He’s not plotting the next challenge with his Lego expert co-host Ryan “The Brickman” McNaught, nor counting down to the moment he calls for them to step away from their builds and have their creations judged. He’s just watching, genuinely fascinated to see what the concentrating builders are coming up with.
“I have the best job!” Hamish, 39, tells Woman’s Day when we catch up with him on set in Melbourne. “I get to come in to see people just be endlessly creative and have fun, and I get to be a nuisance all day!”
For funnyman Hamish – who starred alongside Flight of the Conchords comedian Bret McKenzie in the Kiwi film Two Little Boys – it’s all just part of a dream run that started three years ago, when he was asked to host Lego Masters solo, without his long-time TV partner Andy Lee.
Saying yes was easy – he knew he loved playing with Lego bricks and thought it could be fun to watch others do the same. But he admits he wasn’t sure if viewers would agree.
