It was the festive moment we’d been waiting for – the royal family gathering for the Duchess of Cambridge’s carol service at Westminster Abbey.
Centrestage for the community event – which celebrates the work of teachers, charity workers, volunteers and other pandemic heroes – was a dazzling-looking Kate, with a very proud Prince William by her side as she hosted her first Christmas concert.
“It doesn’t get more high-pressure for Kate than hosting an event like this, with all those eyes on her and knowing it’s going to be broadcast to the world in a couple of weeks, but she was magnificent,” a palace source tells Woman’s Day. “William hasn’t stopped going on about how proud he is since.”
While the Queen didn’t attend, Kate gave a touching nod to her grandmother-inlaw by wearing diamond and sapphire fringe earrings on loan from Her Majesty’s personal collection.
And in the official programme, Kate’s thoughtful words appeared to subtly acknowledge the royal family’s tumultuous year.
