Looking after your own health and well-being should always be the number one priority but in recent years, some women have taken self-care to the next level with a solo-wedding-the act of marrying oneself! It's only a trickle, not yet a trend, but it is out there, and it has a name sologamy.

Self-marriage has become increasingly popular in the 21st century, especially among affluent women. It's a small but growing movement, with consultants and self-wedding planners popping up across the world. This is rapidly gaining popularity among those who feel that they do not need a partner to validate their existence, and to lead a happier and more fulfilling life. The self-love ring-a ring symbolising a lifelong promise to put yourself and your own happiness first has become the next big trend in engagement jewellery.

Sologomy is a symbolic ceremony where you commit to maintaining a meaningful, deep, and loving relationship with yourself. It is a cathartic declaration of self-compassion and a promise to give to yourself what you often seek from other people. The idea is to hold your own heart and care for it as much as you would someone else's; a lifelong commitment to loving yourself fully.

Marrying yourself is a bold statement that says you are enough and a celebration of your wholeness. You might be open to sharing your life with another person but you don't "need" a better half. It is about putting oneself first and acknowledging that self-love is just as important as romantic love. In psychology, this concept is known as self-actualisation, which means achieving one's full potential as a human being. By practicing sologamy, individuals are taking a step towards fulfilling this goal.
