Where words fail, art speaks volumes. Celebrating one of the purest and most natural connections to exist, that of a mother and her child, we explore artistic creations that seek to convey diverse notions associated with it.
While some artists draw from personal experiences, some illustrate endearing moments from childhood that compel us to revisit the past and look back nostalgically, and others explore feelings of unconditional love and care, expressing them through the lens of the unbreakable bond between a mother and her little one.
Architect and sculptor Arzan Khambatta's wooden sculpture depicts a mother cocooning the baby in her protective embrace as the hood on her shades them both. Signifying the purity of this natural bond, the two forms seemingly merge into each other, with wood proving to be the perfect choice of material to realise its poetic formal expression.
This painting by architect and artist Ajay Patil represents a mother giving birth, alluding to nature - a source of nourishment, stability and protection. Through this expressive piece, he seeks to highlight how motherhood is associated with the strength of an adult and a gentle reminder of where our initial strength and beliefs come from, evinced through the presence of muscular bodies surrounding the maternal figure.
In this mixed media sculpture, artist Rouble Nagi portrays a mother affectionately holding her child and playing with him but is also extremely aware and observant of her surroundings, ready to shield her child from any harm that might come their way.
