I am very lucky! I know this as I live within 30 minutes' ride of some fantastic scenery and great bike roads! I had been thinking about getting out for a run this particular day but when I had gotten up, the skies were a little dodgy looking and I wondered about Saturday traffic, but I decided it would be worth the risk. After all, if the worst happened and I got soaked while sitting in a holiday traffic jam, I could just turn for home again! I'm glad I took the chance...
Today's blast took me around some of these aforementioned roads. My official route started in Letterkenny, through the riverside village of Ramelton on to Milford. There I had a choice: stick to the 'main' faster road (still not big!) or go smaller and twisty? Ha ha, I know... no choice really! Soon I just had to stop and admire the cutest thatched cottage I had seen in a while; it was immaculate and so very Irish! I passed along the side of Mulroy Bay - with the blue waters no more than three metres away at times - looking resplendent in the summer sun. The road twists, turns, rises and falls here following the contours of the bay. A left in the village of Kerrykeel led me towards the Harry Blaney Bridge, a short but scenic bridge which helps to link all these bits of water-surrounded land together. At this point I am on the famous Wild Atlantic Way and the iron poles with the characteristic wiggle on them are familiar to all who have seen them!

Ducati Riding Experience
When I rode the Ducati DesertX to France last year, I did have a bit of an explore on some easy fire roads and gentle green lanes in the wilds of the Médoc area, but was left with the feeling that, had I the experience, the DesertX would have been capable of taking me along some more extreme trails to some even more exciting places. If only there was a way of finding out just how well the Italian adventure bike could cope with some more extreme terrain...

It's ironic that the first all-new MV Agusta model to hit the marketplace right after Italy's No.1 trophy brand was acquired by Austrian giant Pierer Mobility, owner of off-road titans KTM, should be the company's first dual-purpose model of the modern era, powered by MV's all-new 931cc three-cylinder engine that's destined to form the basis of a whole series of new models in coming months and years.
