0FCOURSE IT'S coming to Australia. The most powerful series production Corvette ever has broken cover. The 793kW Corvette ZR1 features the Z06's 5.5-litre flat-plane V8 and, for the first time on a 'Vette, bolts a pair of hefty turbochargers to send power spiralling way north of 1000hp without a hybrid battery in sight.

Thus equipped, the LT7 'SmallBlock Gemini' V8 generates its 1064hp at 7000rpm and 1123Nm at 6000rpm, sent to the rear axle through a beefed-up eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Forget about repeating that old trope about agricultural pushrods too, because the ZR1, like the Z06, features dual overhead camshafts.

The engine has been extensively revised, with a unique head, valve timings optimised for forced induction, a new intake system, an anti-lag system and, of course, that duo of mono-scroll 76mm turbos integrated into the exhaust manifold for ultra-fast response.
