CHANDIGARH HAS A long and storied legacy in almost every major sport that includes cricket, hockey, athletics, boxing and golf, among others. On December 16, 2023, the city added another chapter to its illustrious sporting history; it hosted the Royal Ranthambore Business Today Golf tournament, a highly sought-after, invite-only corporate golfing event in India. This is the first time BT Golf has returned to the city after the pandemic.
In the early hours of a bone-chilling mid-December Saturday, when both the sun and the city were still in deep slumber, the first golfer strolled in to sign up for the fourth leg of the invite-only BT Golf 2023-24 season at the Panchkula Golf Club. The picturesque Panchkula golf course is spread over 135 acres on the outskirts of Chandigarh.
Much like the city’s well-designed architecture, the manicured Par-72 18-hole Scottish links-style course is set between the Ghaggar river and the foothills of the Shivalik Range. Set up in 2003, it is a long and rambling track that has matured over the years with its trees and the roughs gaining in stature. At the same time, the fairways and greens at their best make the Panchkula course a delight to play on any day of the year.
