INCRETIN-BASED THERAPIES
While the anti-diabetic therapies majorly include insulin secretagogues and insulin sensitizers, important advancements have occurred in the last few years in the field of diabetes treatment. The drugs which are used as second line agents (after metformin) in the therapeutic algorithm of type 2 diabetes mostly represented by the incretin-based therapies. This includes glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists and dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitors.
