The brain is the most complex organ in the body; god's greatest gift to earthly beings.
A newborn's brain weighs about 350-400 grams, roughly 10 percent of their body weight. In adults, it weighs about 1400 grams. As people age, starting from around 40 years old, the brain's volume and weight decrease by approximately five percent every ten years.
The intricacies within can be imagined by the figures given below. Each area in the brain is function-specific with some overlap. This means that it produces measurable and predictable problems when a part of the brain is damaged. The brain cells don't regenerate once damaged, but they may get rewired to some extent, resulting in the return of a part of the function - this is known as 'neural plasticity'.
CHALLENGES IN NEUROSURGERY
The electrical signals created in the brain network are produced by chemical reactions occurring at innumerable junctions, called Synapses, and they govern all bodily functions. When a tumor grows within the brain, it destroys and/or displaces this intricate network and its functions.
