The relentless competitive spirit that drove Barbara is explored in a new book, The Rulebreaker: The Life and Times of Barbara Walters, by Susan Page, Washington bureau chief of USA Today. “In the beginning, she was the first and she was the only woman,” says Page, “but she liked that by the end of her life, there were a lot of women doing big jobs in TV journalism.”
