Hailing from Bihar, Sanjay Mishra made his acting debut with the television serial Chanakya and the sitcom Office Office. It was Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal- Fun Unlimited and Dhamaal that got him recognition. He was also appreciated for All The Best: Fun Begins and Phas Gaye Re Obama. He bagged the Filmfare Best Actor Critics Award for his performance in Ankhon Dekhi (2014). His last film, Vadh (2022), was appreciated by the audience and critics as well. He again won the Filmfare Best Actor Critics Award for his electrifying performance in the film. I’m meeting Sanjay Mishra at his office, which was designed by him. He was an art director once upon a time and designing interiors is one of his hobbies. An entire wall of the office is dedicated to vintage film posters. A mere glance is enough to take you down memory lane. He owns an envious collection of LP records, which takes up half the space. You find everything from Hindustani classical music, to ghazals, golden age Hindi film music to even some classic rock and roll. He hands me a cup of piping hot darjeeling tea and as his eyes wander over LPs, he takes a sip from his own cup and starts talking..
MUSICAL NOTES
I like classical music. Not only do I have a collection of all types of ragas, but I also have the rendition of how every singer has sung them. I wake up to classical music. I listen to classical music along with the chirping of birds on my balcony. I have inherited this hobby from my late father, Shambhunath Mishra, who was a journalist. This is how my mornings have been since childhood. At that time, my father would switch on the music. I was very attached to my father. His death shook me up badly.
