Scientists say apes dance just like human gals

WOW, she’s really got the moves — stunned researchers have found female gibbons are naturally endowed with a huge dance repertoire whose gyrations act like a male monkey magnet!

The long-armed lady apes have been observed doing wild, imaginative and super stylish routines described as somewhere between vogueing and doing the robot.

“The body becomes stiff, and then these robot-dance-like movements commence,” says Dr. Kai Caspar, a zoologist at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf in Germany, who headed the research.

Dr. Caspar adds the pirouetting primates are not shy — they often look over their shoulders to make sure they’ve still got an audience!

Along with his colleagues, Dr. Caspar — who specializes in gibbons and African mole rats — found when female gibbons bust a move, perhaps to entice a mate, it has a lot in common with human dancing.
