SIX popular supplements may do more harm than good when it comes to health because the botanicals have been linked with liver damage — and lifethreatening organ injury from the over-the-counter treatments is on the rise, according to a concerning study.

Researchers at University of Michigan Health analyzed data from nearly 10,000 adults over three years and discovered 58 percent of the subjects reported using at least one product containing the potentially hepatotoxic ingredients ashwagandha, black cohosh, garcinia cambogia, green tea extract, red yeast rice and turmeric — including curcumin-based formulations.
