It’s the kind of fun family day out that the Prince and Princess of Wales have always enjoyed while entertaining their three energetic children during the school holidays.
But Prince William and Kate’s recent outing to an adventure festival in Norfolk was all the more special after the Princess’s recent health crisis and appears to confirm that she is firmly on the road to recovery.
The Waleses are spending the summer at Anmer Hall, their ten-bedroom home on the Sandringham royal estate, while Kate, 42, takes an extended break from royal duties.
The family have been enjoying bike rides and trips to the beach, but although they have been making the most of the privacy that their Norfolk residence affords, they have also been getting out and about in public.
To the surprise of families attending the Gone Wild Festival at nearby Holkham Hall in August, William and Kate arrived with Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, nine, and six-year-old Prince Louis, with the family joining an exuberant Nerf-gun battle.
Although Kate has been undergoing treatment for cancer, onlookers say she was fit enough to run around firing foam darts and dodging smoke bombs while ducking behind inflatable barriers – much to her children’s delight.
GETTING STUCK IN
“The Princess of Wales grabbed a Nerf gun, ran around and played stuck-in-the-mud with her children,” said Georgina Barron, whose company Norfolk Nerf Parties organised the battle. “Prince Louis was shouting with glee: ‘Come on – Nerf or nothing. Let’s do this!’”
Mother of seven Georgina told how she was informed that “a very special VIP family had requested to play Nerf Wars”. She described how her sons Euan, Jenson and Junior “had the ultimate honour of playing Nerf Wars with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and the adorable Prince Louis”.
