As the sister of TV stars Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Avengers actress Elizabeth Olsen knows all about being the youngest in a trio of siblings.
And in her new film His Three Daughters, it is Natasha Lyonne and Carrie Coon who portray her older siblings in a drama about three estranged sisters reunited during their father's final days.
Initially shy and free-spirited, Elizabeth's character Christina practises yoga, and sings songs by The Grateful Dead to her father. "There's a softness to her, and the idea of being a nurturer was something I was interested in exploring," Elizabeth says.
However, Christina cracks in a moment of rage that sets the stage for the family to process their unresolved trauma and heal.
The actresses hope that the film written and directed by Azazel Jacobs might help prepare audiences for the inevitability of the death of a parent.
"Our job is to help the grieving person," says Fargo and The Gilded Age star Carrie, 43, who plays uptight sister Katie.
