She’s known for her healthy lifestyle, but Davina McCall suffered a shock to the system earlier this year when doctors found a “very rare” tumour in her brain during a routine scan.
The presenter, 57, underwent surgery to remove the benign tumour, known as a colloid cyst, which was successful, and is now looking ahead to the new year. But as she works to put the health scare behind her, the ordeal has given Davina a new outlook and zest for life, a source tells new.
“The surgery has been a real wake-up call for Davina and has made her realise how short life is. She’s really keen to make the most out of everything now,” they explained. “It came out of absolutely nowhere and really shocked Davina, but it has also made her determined to be more carefree and take life by the horns.”
Back in November, Davina took to Instagram with a video to tell fans that she would be undergoing surgery. In the clip, she said, “A few months ago, I did a menopause talk for a company and they offered me a health scan in return, which I thought I was gonna ace, but it turned out I had a benign brain tumour called a colloid cyst, which is very rare. Three in a million.
“So I slightly put my head in the sand. I saw quite a few neurosurgeons, I got lots of opinions and I realised that I have to get it taken out. It’s big for the space. It fills the space. It’s 14mm wide and it needs to come out, because if it grows, it would be bad. So I’m having it removed via a craniotomy.”
