Made In Chelsea's Ruby Adler on raising awareness about ovarian cancer following her aunt's death from the disease

It was a very sad, hard and testing time'

Ruby Adler joined the cast of Made In Chelsea in August 2020, and while her role comes with "testing times", the 29-year-old says she absolutely loves filming the Channel 4 show.

But we're not just catching up with Ruby to find out about the latest drama in SW10, we're also talking to her about a cause close to her heart after she lost her aunt, Vicky Jacobs, to cancer six years ago.

"Sadly, in 2018, we lost my aunt to ovarian cancer. She was only 48 years old when she died and it all happened quite quickly - it was awful," Ruby says. "She wasn't well for a while, then within a couple of years of her diagnosis she passed away."

Ruby continues, "She had it for a while and didn't realise. We were very close, I'd never really gone through grief in such a close form before and it felt so unfair that she had her whole life ahead of her.

"It's so different when you're at a grandparent's funeral and it's sad but they've lived this incredible life. It felt so wrong to be at the funeral for my aunt, with her having been so ill at such a young age. It was a very sad, hard and testing time - it was heartbreaking."

The family tragedy has made Ruby take a closer look at her own health. "It's definitely something I think about and I feel like people aren't as aware of it. That's my biggest concern, wanting people to be more aware. The signs and symptoms to look out for and what to do, making sure if you feel something is wrong you're not sitting on it for however long - you're taking yourself to the doctor and doing everything you can to prevent it from getting to the later stages."
