Izzy Judd on how her kids with McFly star husband Harry are following in their footsteps

'There's always music going on in our house'

Izzy Judd shot to fame as part of electronic string quartet group, Escala, on Britain’s Got Talent in 2008. Today, she’s a proud mum to three children, Lola, eight, Kit, seven, and Lockie, two. She shares her brood with her McFly drummer husband Harry – and it seems the couple’s musical DNA has rubbed off on their little ones. From drumming sessions in their home studio to violin practice and an impressive collection of guitars to choose from when they want a little jam, the Judds have more than enough rhythm to form their own band.

They even hold regular The Voice UK-style auditions as part of their Saturday night family fun – and have recently welcomed a new member to the fold – a beautiful black labrador named Billy, making life busier, and more fun, than ever.

We caught up with Izzy, 40, to talk about their lively Judd household, parenting three kids and whether we can expect a debut from their family band anytime soon.

Hi, Izzy! What’s it like living in a house filled with music?

There’s always music going on in our house. At Lola’s age, I was up doing an hour’s violin practice before school and often after school. Although Harry hasn’t grown up in the same sort of environment, he brings rock and pop. Our son Kit just absolutely loves his electric guitar, and he’ll play from the moment he gets home from school, whereas with Lola I’m like, “Come on, it’s time to practise the violin.” For me, I find playing the violin soothing, it reconnects me back to me because I think in motherhood, you do get a bit lost and remembering who you were before these little people came along is not always easy. So music keeps me feeling more grounded and a bit more “me”. Now the kids have gone back to school, there’s more time for me to be able to play and I’ve got a little violin for Lockie, so he joins in. Often, Harry will take Kit and Lockie to our studio to have a hit on the drums.
