By anyone’s standards, it’s been a big year. Two stints on gruelling reality TV show Australian Survivor, an engagement and a shock pregnancy all factor for this ‘villain’ contender. But Jordie Hansen, who’s expecting his first child with fellow reality TV star Sam Frost “any day now”, is taking it all in his stride. “It’s been wild, I’ve had the most amazing year ever,” he tells WHO. “If it wasn’t for this show, I would never have the life I have now.”
You’re currently competing on the Heroes v Villains season of Survivor (filmed late last year) and you were part of 2022’s Blood V Water competition. Why did you return to the show so soon?
I had to do this season for my family. Winning $500,000 would be a game changer for Sam and I – and our baby.
How hard was it to decide to play?
It was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make. When I left for Samoa, Sam was only nine weeks pregnant. She was so sick, struggling to hold food down. For two months prior, all I could do for her was make her plates of Vegemite toast. It was a nightmare for her. I was living in a world, though, where everything I’ve ever dreamt of was right here at home. So it was really hard to leave.
What made you go in the end?
Sam did! She was like, “You have to do this,” and then next minute, I was on my way to Samoa with my bags.
What was it like to find out your baby’s gender, as we’ve just seen on-air, while filming?
